RE: 2012 Lions Club Lake Minnetonka Crappie Contest - April 21st
"First Annual Lion's Lake Minnetonka Crappie Contest a Dream of NPAA Member

NPAA Member Press Release
Published May 1, 2012

Over many springs before the Walleye opener, there was one fish, NPAA member Roy Peterson grew fond of, the feisty little Crappie. Roy and his fishing buddies waited for months each winter to fish the Holiday Crappie Contest every April; it was truly the Rite of Spring. That event was a family event with bumper to bumper boats, full of families; wives, girlfriends, sons and daughters, along with Roy and his friends. Usually out before dawn each year at the event Roy and his buddies hunkered in, enjoying the event and always willing to share a tip with the other teams fishing the event, "Try yellow, and a smaller bobber." This was truly the awakening of a Minnesota spring.

Early last March Roy and a friend reminisced about those days and decided to have our own Spring Crappie Contest. As Lions, they organized the first Lion's Lake Minnetonka Crappie Contest. Five Lake Minnetonka area Lions Clubs were involved, setting a goal to break even, make it a family event, and pass on what they know as the Minnesota Rites of Spring!

They sold contest tickets, raffle tickets, chased down sponsors, begged for advertising, but it was still about fishing, the families, and getting the kids to know and enjoy what they both love about the sport. The NPAA helped support the event along with several other great sponsors. With sponsor help the Lion's gave every kid a rod and reel, T-shirts, a random package of worms, hooks, and big red and white bobbers! And the kid's loved it. They were running around in the rain on a classic Crappie contest day, pulling their rods through the crowd, and all did it with a smile. Overall Roy and his Lion brother's succeeded in creating an event that will be worth repeating each year!" - NPAA

RE: 2012 Lions Club Lake Minnetonka Crappie Contest - April 21st
I know it's a little late but I wanted to say congratulations on a great crappie contest. Even though it was raining we still made it and had a wonderful time. My niece was ecstatic that she got her own fishing pole from the kids tent and I'm not complaining too much about my $20 gift card to Birch's. Until this weekend I had never been there before and what a romantic little restaurant.

We can't wait to see everyone there next year!!!
